A Tragedy in Education.

Alas! What a good insight, we have in education. Are we not bragging about our Kenyan education that is perceived to be superior to other African countries neighbouring us? Boom! Here comes the shortcoming in the field of education particularly in schools ;

1. Early pregnancies: This has risen to be a major blow to learners, parents, and the school. Students(girls) end up being impregnated early due to various reasons such as shortage of upkeep, lack of guidance and counselling, ignorance, and soon. This ends up distancing the students' concentration far from studies leading to school dropouts, suicide, and dismal performance in National examinations.

A big shout out to parents, guardians, teachers, and those who may be involved to create awareness

against this.

2. Poor class attendance by subject teachers: what a bad show when some teachers have turned against the professional ethics of a teacher by skipping lesson attendance only to end up giving out assignments or using student leaders to take charge of the class. This gives them time to visit

the chang`aa dens, love affairs, and even concentrate on their side hustles.

3. Lack of government involvement: The government of the day hasn't concentrated on the schools

operations and eliminate recurrent cases of corruption, poor running of the schools by the school

heads and this has resulted in poor performance up to the National Examinations level due to lack

of purchase on school requirements such as books, laboratory requirements.

4.No/Poor teacher motivation: This is becoming a major inhibitor in terms of teacher performance as he/she feels low morale to help students to their best level of understanding a content. This should be put into practice by the school heads and not only during KCSE awards alone. Just like an article I read the other day whereby on this 2020 KCSE result release, the Agriculture teacher is received Ksh.58,600(highest) while the English teacher is received Ksh.600(lowest), and the Physics, Chemistry teachers received nothing at all.

5.Increased school fee: This has

been a major blow to most parents who are unable to pay the required school fee as well as cater for increased prices of school expenses for their kids only to end up transferring the back to the village schools where performance is reinforced maximally leading to poor quality exams during the release of final examinations. Some students do end up dropping school and become a nobody in the village.

6.A few classrooms to accommodate all the learners: This has resulted in students taking their studies in overcrowded rooms. This became a major threat to the health of the students as there is a COVID-19 pandemic within the country that is claiming most lives. This tends to endanger the lives of students lives.

7.Inadequate Education Materials: This includes; Books(course books, revision books, question and answer materials), desks and chairs, and many others limit the learners` desire to do more practices so as to grasp varied concepts.

8.Early marriages: Some students, both boys, and girls do engage themselves in premarital sex only to end up becoming parents while young. Some of the young girls get married to old grandpas while at school age. What a bad scenario!

Though I have highlighted a few challenges that are threatening the schools' operations, much needs to be done so as to push ahead of the education standards of our country.
